2020Fall-PerformativeAvatars-Week02
I tried body scan and Daz studio this week.

The result of 3d scan is not as perfect as I thought, it has millions of polygon faces, it might require more labour to refine the mesh and UV. But it’s quite fun to try.
Before I document my daz work, I just want to say DAZ SUCKS!
I bought this $10 asian look model in the marketplace, I customized it a bit to make it similar to me. Then I tried to export it to Unreal. It seems like there are mainly two ways to bridge to Unreal, one is to use Daz’s free plugin ‘Daz to Unreal Bridge’, I tried to open it with Daz Central, a manager software to archive your purchases and products. Daz Central went completely not responsive, even though I tried to reinstall it over 15 times. Daz does suck.
Then I used the hardcore way, you need to open a Notepad file, take down every morph option you want, and add them in Morph section when exporting it.
After the export, I imported it to Unreal, set the skeleton, retarget the animation.

She’s naked, I’ll try to wrap her.
I might look into how to refine the eyes and eyelashes, and how to make hair.
After this, I downloaded animation from Mixamo, and tried to apply daz character skeleton to it. Weird thing that, Unreal cannot read the first skeleton, saying cannot find similar base pose. The first one is a A pose.
So I adjusted it to T pose, and uploaded it to Mixamo, it worked fine, but lost texture when imported to Unreal. I’ll figure it out in the following week, and might reach out to classmates with similar experience.
